My granddaughters just returned from Girl Scout camp. The question on both my mind and their mother's what did you bake in your box oven. Apparently they didn't. Then as the questioning continued, both their mother and I realized we had forgotten how it worked when we were at girl scout camp. So my mission this Saturday was to look online for a description. Not at all hard to find. In fact the page I found has several variations. And I had completely forgotten it required a camp fire. As hot as it has been here in Florida for the last several weeks I'm wondering if we couldn't just use the hot pavement or concrete instead of the camp fire. Would love to hear if anyone else has tried this and what was baked. Here's the link to several ovens and a couple camp recipes. Enjoy!

Nancy, we used liquor boxes, as they are double walled. In leu of that, double a cardboard box by cutting down one box to fit inside another. Then double wrap it in heavy duty foil. Charcoal was placed in a pan, (disposable ones work great) and four soda cans were placed on each corner, with a cake cooling rake on top. Use one peice of charcoal for each 40 degree of heat needed. We baked jiffy cake mixes, and english muffin pizzia's when we camped.
